I think I posted about this before. My wife and I were on holiday with our ten-year-old daughter in the peaceful village of Banyalbufar, Mallorca.

During the late '80s my interest in GD had waned a bit (after having bought and disliked Built To Last, and having read about how unpleasant the "parking lot scene" had become); but then came One From The Vault, the Garcia/Grisman collaborations and the early Dick's Picks - and I was hooked again.

So I took some tapes with me to Mallora, including One From The Vault and '73 Maples Pavilion. I'd had a dumb but greatly enjoyable dream during the night of 8th-9th August, which centred on the discovery of a huge store full of Grateful Dead live recordings, posters etc., but then woke to BBC's World Service news that Jerry had died.

I spent as much time as I could that day alone with my tapes. On returning home I went straight to the local library and photocopied all the newspaper obituaries. I have them still, but have always been too heartbroken to look at them again.
